Real Hen Party: A Roaring Twenties Hen Party!

We love a good hen party theme. Alice in Wonderland, boho, nautical, we’ve seen them all. But nothing beats a good old fashioned vintage party. So when we spotted this roaring 1920s knees up, we could not wait to share it with you.

Organised by hen party planner extraordinaire, Lucy from Diary of A Bride, you’re going to want to grab a cup of tea and settle down to read this. Planned to perfection, you won’t want to miss a single detail.

The Planning Stage

As maid of honour, Lucy worked together with bridesmaid Sally to plan this fabulous hen party for their best friend. And what a great job these ladies did!

Rather than rushing in and booking the hen party without thinking about it, the pair started planning the September 2014 hen party way back in January. We love the organisation!

First things first, they put their thinking caps on and thought about what kind of theme would suit the bride, Nina. They came up with the idea of a 1920s weekend and got in touch with Pink Welly Events.

Here’s what Lucy had to say about Pink Welly Events:

‘They offer a 1920’s Hen Party package in London, which looked perfect! We paid our deposit and Pink Welly sent us a link to send to the rest of the girls to make their payments online. I can’t recommend Pink Welly enough. They took the hassle out of the organising, and by allowing the girls to pay directly on their website, it meant that we weren’t out of pocket.’

The Activities

So what did they get up to? They started the hen party with a Charleston Dance Class dressed to the nines in their flapper girl dresses. They then enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea, followed by a headband craft workshop. As Nina is crafty, this was an obvious choice!

Cocktail Hour

Lucy was keen to continue the 1920s theme into the evening but found it tough finding the right bar to suit the theme. A quick search on Twitter proved useful as they stumbled across The Nightjar. Based in Shoreditch, the Nightjar describes itself as ‘a hidden slice of old-school glamour’. Walking distance from the apartments they booked, the bar turned out to be a huge success. The Nightjar served the most incredible cocktails in teapots. After a few drinks, the hens put their Charleston dance lesson to good use and a danced the night away to the live band.

Planned to perfection, they managed to keep the hen party a surprise from Nina and even flew in an old school friend from USA as a surprise.
