Hen Party Themes | How To Choose A Hen Party Theme

We Love A Hen Party Theme

We love a theme when it comes to hen parties. In fact, we can’t get enough.

After all, a theme can help you make your decisions. It can help you decide your activities and your decorations.

It can even influence the food and drink you serve.

And, on occasion, it can help you decide your accommodation.  (Check out this hen party to see this in action.)

A Necessity or A Luxury?

Of course a theme is an added extra. It’s by no means necessary.

There’s enough to think about before considering a theme. And let’s be honest, the bride might HATE the idea of a theme.

So make sure you evaluate whether it’s worth spending your time and money on accessories and decorations. Remember it’s about what the bride wants.

That being said, it goes without saying, we love themes.

If you do too, keep reading…

1. Mad Hatters Tea Party

A firm favourite at HenBox HQ, this is the perfect theme for a bride to be who loves anything whimsical. Ask all your guests to come as different characters to make sure no one overlaps. An afternoon tea has to be the activity of choice for this theme. And if you really want to push the boat out, book one of these incredible Alice in Wonderland theme houses. Both located in Brighton, they are the perfect weekend getaway for hen parties looking to treat their bride to be to something extra special. 2. Monochrome

If you want to theme your party but you don’t want all your guests to wear fancy dress, this one is for you. Simple and classic, monochrome is a theme that is easy to achieve. Ask your guests to wear black and make sure the bride to be wears white. Treat the bride to be to a simple black or ivory sash and she’ll be ready to go. Add some personal details and decorate your hen party accommodation with simple monochrome decorations. Easy peasy. This is the theme for the bride who doesn’t want too much fuss.

Vintage hen parties are always a popular choice. Lots of brides love the idea of a retro hen party but one thing you need to remember is to choose the right era for your bride. She may want to throw a roaring twenties knees up complete with a Charleston dancing and a cocktail making class. Or her ideal hen might involve travelling back in time to the fifties. If this is the case, get inspired by Grease, go all out with the costumes and splash out on a retro fifties makeover. Whichever era your bride to be prefers, vintage hen dos are always glam, fun and sophisticated.

Our pink hen parties are different to all the rest. You don’t need to wear a fluffy pink boa to have a pink theme hen party. Instead add pops of pink by decorating your hen party accommodation / restaurant with pom poms and confetti. Eat pretty pink cupcakes and go for the pink fizz. If your bride to be loves pink head to toe, ask your guests to commit and go all out with a bright pink dress. The photos will look great and your bride to be will love it. How To Choose Your Hen Do Theme

A few questions to ask yourself before you get started. Ask your bride to be these questions, to give you an idea of the type of theme she is looking for.

1. What time of year is the hen party?

  • Think about the time of year! If your hen party is in spring or summer, you could go for a summer festival theme or a floral theme. If it’s in winter, you may want to go for a gold or monochrome colour scheme.

2. What’s the hen party budget?

  • Think about whether there is enough budget to have a fancy dress theme. If the bride to be wants fancy dress, think about booking less activities. Getting dressed up is almost like an activity in itself. And you’ll be surprised at how much of an ice breaker it is.

3. Does your bride to be shudder at the idea of a pink fluffy hen party?

  • If you bride to be hates the idea of having a tacky hen party or if she even considered not having a hen party at all, there are alternatives. Instead of all the fuss that can come along with themes, host a low key hen party with a simple colour scheme.

4. Does she want a full blown theme complete with fancy dress?  Or does she just want a nod to a theme with some subtle decorations and accessories?

  • If she wants to have a full blown theme complete with costumes, make sure you tell your guests early on so that they can make or find their costume in time.
  • But if you are going for a theme with lots of characters, send out an email assigning characters to different guests so you don’t get a cross over.
  • If she wants a nod to a theme, look at decorating your hen party house / apartment / home with appropriate decorations.
  • And if she doesn’t want an OTT theme, think about just going for a colour scheme. Pink, gold and monochrome are firm favourites at HenBox.

5. Does she want a whimsical theme? Or does she want something more sophisticated?

  • If she loves the idea of a whimsical OTT hen party theme, why not have a Mad Hatters Tea Party or get dressed up in 80s Bridesmaid dresses.
  • If she wants something more sophisticated, ask your guests to all come in certain colour dress / outfit.  The bride to be in white and the rest of your guests in black outfits always works well in photos. As an alternative ask everyone to wear bright colours and floral headbands. The choices are endless. Remember, sophisticated doesn’t have to be boring!

6. Does she want to go out in fancy dress or stay in?

  • Not all restaurants, bars and clubs allow fancy dress so make sure you check before you book.

7. Have you thought about making the theme one of the activities?

  • Incorporate the theme into your activities. For example, if vintage is her thing, book a vintage dance class or a retro makeover.  If she loves mad hatters, go for an afternoon tea.

8. Are you creative?

  • If you are creative and are up for a bit of hard work, why not theme your hen party accommodation. Create a memory wall full of photos, hang themed decorations and play hen party games with a themed twist. This is a great idea if you want to host a fun hen party on a budget. Instead of booking lots of activities, stay in and party
